Vision Boards Are Not Just For Adults

Most of us have heard of Vision Boards.  They are nothing new.  Why I have a friend who recently shared her vision board that she created when she was a young girl.  It’s well over 20 years old!!!  She wanted to be in the air force and be a pilot.    Do you think she achieved all that she put on that board?  You bet she did!!

While they may not be new, they have become more popular since “The Secret” came out.   So many of our friends have them now.  It’s like goal setting with pictures!

The other day Jack Canfield (featured in The Secret) posted on Facebook a 30% discount on all of his products.  It’s a great discount, so I went to check out what he had to offer. (The power of social media!)

It was there that I found his Kid’s Vision Book.  I figured we could do a poster with our son, but the kit was packed full of great quotations, affirmations, and inspirational words.   I would have had to invest so much time to researching and compiling it all.  They made it easy for me to purchase this kit.

When I received the Vision Book a few days later, I was beyond impressed.  It is BEAUTIFUL!  From the look of it, to the feel of it in your hands.  I knew my son would love it.

I handed him the book and begin to tell him this is his vision/dream book.  It’s a place where he can place all of his dreams and look at them often.  I explained when we do this, our dreams become real.

He was beyond excited and was chomping at the bit to begin creating.

It took us an entire day to create the book. Our son is six.  With that comes a six year old attention span.

Here is what we did:

  • Mediated for 1 – 2 minutes
  • Talked about our dreams, things we wanted, gratefulness ( I wrote this down)
  • Took an hour break
  • Picked out printed and cut pictures
  • Laid out all of the quotations, affirmations, and inspirational words.
  • Took another long break
  • I read the quotes, affirmations, and inspirational quotes to him.  He told me which ones he wanted.  We briefly discussed each one.
  • I left and he put the book together himself.

The pride that flowed out of him when he was finished was heart warming.

What a great feeling to know that we can start our kids off on the right foot.  To teach them how to achieve their dreams, set goals, and make it a habit early in life.  It’s one of those priceless gifts!

You don’t need to buy a package like this one.  It can be as simple as a poster board, glue, and pictures cut out of a magazine.  Check out this link on how to make a vision board.

We hope that his has inspired you to do the same with your kids.  By the way, you can start your kids off earlier than age 6!  We have friends with a four year old who has a vision board.

Don’t forget to make one for your self!
